Busy Day. Thanks to all that turned out (too many to mention, but you know who you are). Early start with delivery of the Bobcat bulk handler arriving before breakfast. Dougie had been on site since 07.30 I believe. The Bobcat was the secret to moving the 26 tons of hardcore efficiently and it meant that the team were able to lay the 90 metres of roadway and about 40% of the car park area in the morning. The weather could not have been better. Watch out when Mike B is at the Bobcat controls, spinning on the spot is obviously possible. The hardcore was roughly levelled then rolled and finally wacked. Some board edging has been added between car park and runway area along the bottom of the fence. Additional hardcore was also laid outside the gate where the dip was sometimes proving muddy. The roadway will very quickly start to show undulations but this is to be expected as traffic forces the softer areas lower. This is simply cured by additional hardcore being shovelled in as required and wacked again. This is only the first phase of an ongoing project and the road will need ongoing maintenance to keep it in good shape.. We will have another go next weekend, weather permitting, and finish the car park area and continue levelling/compacting.
This job is by no means finished and I would suggest a 4mph speed limit (mandatory). Although the surface is better, could everyone take care when doing 3 point turns and avoid any undue scuffing of the surface until it is finally bedded in.
The centre of the roadway will be sprayed twice yearly to kill the grass.
There is still some excess mud to be removed from the as yet unfinished areas of the car park so feel free to scrape away. (It was frozen hard today and couldnt be moved). Great team effort and Granny Wilson's rolls were fantastic. (he will make someone a lovely wife).
